Fishing
operations are performed by modern trawlers fitted with
leading edge technology for navigation, match, processing
and conservation of the fish. Trawler activities are
monitored by a satellite control system.
Activities are based in Puerto Madryn, South of Argentina
at 14 to 36 hours from the fishing zone generally about
18 to 24 hours away.
The ALPESCA fleet is made up by 9 vessels operating
in Argentine jurisdiction (EEZ), all licensed and within
the allowed areas.
Every single vessel is a production unit with its respective
quality system (operating under HACCP, GMP and BRC standards)
duly registered as such and certified by the European
Union, the FDA and Japanese authorities.
In line with the company’s environmental protection
policy, all the vessels are fitted with fish waste disposal
systems and personnel trained accordingly to COPE with
environmental routine and emergency tasks.
The wetfish fleet is made up by 6 stern trawlers that
catch white fish, focused in hake (Merluccius hubbsi),
and bycatch such as squid, kingklip, grouper, skate,
etc.
They
are:
Cabo San Juan
Cabo Vírgenes
Cabo San Sebastián
Cabo Buen Tiempo
Cabo Dos Bahías
Cabo Buena Esperanza
All
the trawlers have a heading and gutting plant that includes
a quick chilling step with water and flow ice. In this
manner the headed and gutted fish is stabilized after
the chilling step at around 0 degrees centigrade. The
next step is the placement of the fish in bins properly
conditioned with flake ice to assure freshness and high
quality (texture, color, taste) until the raw material
is landed and processed in our land facilities.
Fishing trips last a maximum of 8 days. Once this time
elapses it is mandatory to return to port to land the
fish.
Shrimp freezer vessel fleet:
Promarsa I
Promarsa II
Promarsa III
These
are three bottom type freezer vessels
After the shrimp is caught and processed (washing grading
and packing) it is frozen at a temperature below 25
degrees, packed into cartons and stored in a -25º
hold.
Processing and freezing capacities range from 4 to 8
tons per day and the vessels are designed to stay out
at sea for periods ranging between 25 to 40 days.
The new freezer vessel Promarsa III, bought in Spain
that was registered in Argentina 2003 is fitted with
state of the art navigation technology and has extra
freezing capacity provided by tunnels and plate freezers.
